Homeowners are spoilt for choice these days when it comes to ways to sell their property. There are so many options available, each with their own set of pros and cons. From traditional high-street estate agents to private sales and online agencies; here we’ll look at all of the options available.
Traditional estate agents
Traditional, high-street estate agents were once the only option open to sellers and they remain the most popular option today despite the competition. A large reason for this is the fact they are the most secure and trusted option out there.
When you choose to sell through an estate agent offline, they take care of practically everything for you including the marketing of the property, viewings and legal agreements. They also have a wealth of information and experience at their fingertips, making the selling process a smooth and stress free experience.
This is the most expensive option due to the number of fees charged, but the convenience and hassle-free process does make these fees worthwhile.
Private sales
Thanks to the internet, it’s never been easier to sell your home privately. However, it is a much riskier option than selling via an estate agent. It’s also a more timely process, as you need to take care of everything from the listings and viewings to organising the legal side of the sale. However, there are advantages, other than cost-savings you’ll make, to selling privately. For example, you can spend a lot more time considering a buyer’s offer.
Unless you have a good knowledge of the selling process and the things to watch out for, it would be better to stick to an agency.
Online estate agents
There’s been an increase in the number of online estate agents popping up in recent years. They are known for being cheaper than traditional agencies, but they don’t typically offer the same level of services as a high-street agency. For example, you will usually be in charge of viewings and it’s a little more difficult to communicate with the agents as there is no premises to pop into.
Quick sales
Another option is to opt for a quick sale. If you need to move quickly this can be a tempting option. However, companies which provide this service usually offer a much lower price than the house is actually worth. You’re basically settling on a discounted price for the convenience of selling quickly.
Overall, you do have a lot of options when it comes to selling your home, but it is important to be aware of the pros and cons of each. The above are just some of the options open to you.
