Scape Living set to take the London student housing scene by storm

Situated in Mile End, Scape student Living has launched its first residential academic campus for students.

The vision for Scape is to develop over 2,000 student beds in central London over the next three years.  Plans are already taking shape with 300 beds currently under construction on the Greenwich Peninsula, due for completion in September 2013. A further academic residential campus in prime Shoreditch will open in June 2015 housing around 540 student beds, complete with 50,000 square foot of teaching facilities as well as retail and commercial space.

The launch of the Mile End building with 600 student beds and 25,000sq ft of teaching facilities sets a new benchmark in the student living experience; with its innovative and striking design features, combined with high-end flexible teaching and learning facilities available for a multitude of uses.

The interior was designed by Ab Rogers with light and airy multi-use spaces such as museums and galleries as a source of inspiration, and is spacious in appearance with bright, accessible areas buzzing with a social sense of community.

The eye-catching and inventive design doesn’t end there; spiral staircases, stunning courtyard gardens and an imposing double height entrance are just a few of the building’s features.

Just some of the amenities available at Scape, road-tested by Olympians and LOCOG dignitaries, who stayed over the summer, include:

  • WIFI connection availability  throughout the Scape building so students can log on anywhere within rooms and common areas
  • Dedicated quiet areas for those wishing to study away from their own room
  • Communal facilities including fabulous internal and external courtyards, breakout spaces for work or play and recreation facilities including pool tables, table football and TV lounges
  • Games and Cinema room
  • Gym (Opening Autumn 2012)
  • An in-house noodle bar in the form of Asian fusion specialist Box Noodle
  • Meal plans and charge cards for all residents
  • Room keys which grant access to the building, corridors and rooms
  • Manned 24 hour reception desk
  • 24 hour security and CCTV throughout
  • Onsite management and maintenance teams

As well as providing safe and modern living facilities, Scape is focused on sustainability. All materials selected for the interior have been chosen for their long life and low maintenance qualities. The building also features:

  • Ground source heat pump
  • Combined heat and power generator
  • Grey water recycling
  • Heat recovery
  • LED lighting
  • Green roofs

Scape also operates a recycling programme to make sure all residents do their bit to keep Scape environmentally friendly.

Scape COO, Tom Ward, said; “The market has evolved significantly over the last five years, particularly in London. Students are now consumers in their own right and demand a higher quality living experience and want to ensure their living experience matches the quality of their education. Our mission is to create a campus feel to our buildings, underpinning that with strong educational resources available on-site.”

“Our rooms are specified to a very high standard but at an affordable price; they are all interior designed and have everything a student could need, in terms of facilities and tech. We are equally excited about our plans for the new builds; having taken on board student feedback to improve for the future. For example, window seats have been incredibly well-received and have become a signature of the Scape Living brand, so all new builds will have large comfortable window seat nooks for students to unwind, socialise or study.”
