Land Registry see only small increase in House price Index

The Land Registry May 2014 HPI shows a fairly static index with only a marginal increase over the month. The monthly price change for May was 0.4%

Key facts:


  • The monthly price change for May was 0.4%

  • Annually this represented a change of 6.7%

  • The average house price in England and Wales was £172,035

  • Increased number of transaction with 67,969 transactions in December 2013 to March 2014, compared to 50,016 the year before


Regional

As normal the regions have faired differently, with London coming out on top again with a monthly increase of 2.5% and an annual change at a whopping 18.5%. This puts the average house price in the capital at £439,719.

Behind London the East Midlands was the only area with an over 1% increase at 1.5%, however 4 other regions saw small increments

At the bottom of the table was Yorkshire and Humberside who saw a fairly large -0.9% decrease in house prices, although this still represents a 2.9% annual change. Annual house prices here are £119,472
