Moving house in Scotland

Your conveyancing report and energy certificate have come back clean, you’ve exchanged contracts (finally) and the estate agents and lawyers are happy.  You’ve researched removal services in Scotland and you’re happy with your choice.  You are finally ready to move house.  So, what now?  Moving into your first home usually divides people into two camps: the ones who are relaxed about the whole process (it’s just a house move, not rocket science) and those who start drawing up their lists and contingency plans right away.  Although moving house can be an extremely stressful experience, and you’re going to need to make use of rest and relaxation times in the run up to moving day for sure, it’s probably a good idea to lean more towards the side of caution and start on your to-do lists and logistics planning.  Drafting in family and friends to help start packing up can be...

What you need to consider when selling your house

Timing If you want a fast and trouble-free sale there are a number of factors that must be carefully considered before you put your property on the market. One of the most important is the timing of the sale. If you do not have to market the property immediately, it may be prudent to wait until the peak selling periods during the spring and summer; avoid Christmas and the New Year as they are notoriously slow periods in the property market. You must also decide whether to find another property before you agree any sale, so that hopefully the sale and purchase can be contemporaneous.  Alternatively, if finances allow you could complete a sale and then rent a property as temporary accommodation while you search for your ideal house. Another consideration is of course the financial planning.  Mortgage arrangements will have to be negotiated with potential lenders so that it...

Stop Fraudsters Selling Stolen Houses

Most people can’t believe their ears whenever Donna Jeavons tells her story. You buy a property in good faith You take out a mortgage to buy the property You use good reputable solicitors and everything is done correctly You find out three months later that it was a stolen house that you bought, plus there’s £30,000 worth of internal damage! When she mentioned it to me, I too couldn’t believe it, so that’s why I felt compelled to ask Donna about the scam and write this article. Although Donna is dealing with a very stressful situation, she’s determined to bring some good out of her plight by launching a campaign to raise public awareness and help stop this happening to other people. Here’s the incredible story… Donna and her best friend Amanda bought a buy-to-let  property  from a trusted source in October 2010. It was a great deal, with...
