3 eco-friendly ways to prepare your bedroom for winter

property investment

With winter fast approaching, now is a great time to be looking for ways to make your home as cosy as possible. In particular, your bedroom, is there any better place to be as the temperatures drop than snuggled up in bed with a cup of tea? Preparing your comfort room for the big chill is the perfect opportunity to think about ways to become more eco-friendly! This will not only help save the planet, it could also cut down your energy bills. From easy ways to reduce heat loss to switching to sustainable bedding, here are three- eco -friendly ways to prepare your bedroom for Winter.

Snuggle into sustainable bedding

What you sleep on matters all year round though, in winter, it needs to up the ante. Choosing eco-friendly fabrics does not mean you’ll be any less comfortable; it could be the best bedtime decision you make. Bamboo is fast becoming the go-to for everything from feather-free fluffy, warm duvets to luxuriously soft natural bedding. What makes bamboo the wonder fabric of the moment is not just its planet-friendly credentials. It is thermo-regulating meaning it adjusts to your body temperature, keeping you breezing through summer and snug as a bug in winter. Its natural anti-microbial qualities help you save on washing too. Bamboo bedding stays nice and fresh from lights out till morning. In pursuit of a cosy winter? A bamboo duvet might become your new favourite thing this season.

Save heat and reduce bills

If you wake up chilly in the night, turning up the thermostat might not be the answer. Instead, try these energy-saving tips which will not only help the planet… it will save you money to spend on mince pies!

  • Treat yourself to a hot water bottle- is there anything better to cuddle up to on a cold night than a hot water bottle? Far more cost-effective than having the heating on all night and much better for the planet.
  • Close your bedroom door at night– This will stop any drafts from elsewhere in the house from coming through and stop any heat from escaping
  • Go for glazing- If you have the option to upgrade to double glazing, winter is a great time to do it. It can help to prevent a fair bit of heat loss to keep your bedroom nice and cos
  • Switch to curtains- Switching blinds for nice, thick curtains for the winter is an eco-friendly way to keep the heat in – without reaching for that thermostat!

Give one (or all) of these a go and you will find staying eco-friendly and snug is easy- peasy!

Sleep in eco-friendly Pj’s

Winter calls for extra comfy pyjamas, consider them the finishing touch to your eco-friendly bedroom. When it comes to shopping, look for alternatives to synthetic materials and cotton which can be more demanding on the environment. Sleeping in natural materials will not only keep you dry and comfortable all night, but the fabrics are far kinder to your skin and the planet. Much like bamboo bedding. And can you get bamboo pyjamas? You bet. It seems there is little this wonder plant doesn’t make. Winter is the perfect time to stock up on warm, cosy sleepwear. After all, where better to spend the coldest season than tucked up in your eco-friendly bed?

Giving your bedroom a little more attention as the temperature drops and evenings get darker will set you up for a cosy winter. Everything in your bedroom, (even your PJ’s) can be given an eco-friendly switch to make bedtime a natural, relaxing sanctuary you cannot wait to jump into. Good luck getting up in the mornings!
