property investment

Moving into a new house can be exciting and daunting. Outside of the work you may do to unpack your belongings and give everything its own place, there might be other types of work you want to consider which will help with increasing security and making the space your own. Some of these tasks may be undertaken yourself, whereas others may require the use of external contractors. Making changes may help you to feel a bit safer, as well as to allow you to settle in that much quicker.

Having New Locks

While you may wish to assume that you have been given all of the keys for your property, you can’t ever guarantee that copies don’t exist. When moving into a home that you own, you may want to find a locksmith in London who will be able to replace the existing locks. This way, you can control who is given a set of keys, such as close family, or even neighbours. While you might want to be cautious about who is given access, this can be useful if there is ever an emergency, or you want someone to be able to check your home while you are away. In rented accommodation, you may require permission from the estate agency or landlord prior to making these changes.

Service the Boiler

If the boiler in your home hasn’t been looked after properly, this could be hazardous to your health. While it can be a good idea to check the service history before closing on a property, you may find that some details are missing. Boilers need to be looked after, even during the warmer months. One of the biggest threats that a faulty boiler can cause is carbon monoxide poisoning. Over time, this can prove to be fatal. If you want to be sure of the safety of your means of heating your home, you may want to conduct an interim service. When doing so, it is important to use a fully qualified plumber. At times, it may also be necessary to have the boiler repaired or replaced, so it can be a top priority for you to have your home in good working order.

Redecorate

Although this may not be at the top of your to-do list, you might notice that you don’t share the same tastes for design as the home’s previous owner. Moving in itself can be rather expensive, so you might want to choose to redecorate yourself. When doing so, it can be good to utilise neutral colours, rather than current fashions, so that you can try to avoid falling out of love with your rooms when new trends come in.

Moving home can be incredibly tiring, but the signing of papers and gaining of keys isn’t where the work stops. To truly be able to love your home, and relax in the space, you may want to consider the ways that you can personalise it, and increase the levels of safety and security.
